John versus bad journalism

In the last few days, John's had a couple of run-ins with people over really lame journalism. The first one was at a breakfast for Chris Gregoire. There was an AP reporter present, and John laid into him about there having been NO coverage of the historic rally for Patty Murray the prior day. The reason the Patty Murray rally was historic was that she was being endorsed by the National Veterans of Foreign Wars - and the VFW has never before endorsed either a woman or a Democrat. Yet there was no press coverage of this at all. The AP reporter kind of squirmed and made pitiful excuses, but really had no rationale for why the AP chose to cover every last twist and turn of any trumped-up "scandal" but not an actual historic event.

Then, this morning, John was calling the Seattle Times to complain about their endorsement of Dino Rossi and cancel our subscription. They were perplexed about why he was canceling it, as they'd offered it to us free. While he was on the phone with them, he opened this morning's paper and discovered they'd endorsed Rob McKenna for state Attorney General, and he blew up. They changed our free subscription to the Seattle P.I. and apologized to him for the inconvenience. :D

John got to meet Max Cleland at one of the veterans' events the other day. He got his autograph on a Veterans for Kerry-Edwards sign, and Max talked to him for awhile and gave him a big hug. Unfortunately, John forgot his camera (and I was at the Seattle Storm championship game), so he has no picture of himself with Max, although he did get some pictures from the event taken by others. He also has a picture from the Chris Gregoire breakfast of himself talking to Chris.
