In response, I sent them this letter, which they printed on January 26 (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/209314_ltrs26.html):
The poll cited was an online poll which permitted respondents to vote multiple times. These types of polls are utterly meaningless as indicators of anything other than the fervor with which some people will flood any Internet poll with votes. Yet I've now seen this poll cited as some sort of "proof" of electoral sentiment on numerous occasions. Along with most of the other claims in the article, this is hyperbole and outright nonsense of the worst kind.
If the only thing that will satisfy state Republicans is to have the election invalidated, then fine, let's do it according to state law. First, they must prove that there is either fraud or human error sufficient to alter the election results statewide. Then, if the election is indeed invalidated, well, that's what the office of Lieutenant Governor is for. Lt. Governor Brad Owen becomes governor until we get the do-over provided for in state law - in November 2008.
I took that stupid poll. It was running 75% yes (to the should we have a revote question) to 25% no. Just out of curiosity, I voted another time to see if the vote count changed. It did. So people with scripts and bots could and did flood the poll with multivotes, making it completely meaningless. Yet it gets cited as some sort of evidence!
